Supporting client asset transition
Working with our client through a significant change in their lives, to ensure their investments were appropriately advised and managed, coinciding with a period of extreme economic and market turbulence.
Being a trusted partner through a period of change
Our client – an entrepreneur - was introduced to Affinity during his relocation from Australia to the UK. This change in residency required careful planning, guided by professional advice, including structuring - undertaken by our trust colleagues – and the need for in-specie asset transfer, during a period of Covid-related economic and market disruption.
The challenge was to help coordinate the transfer of investments and simultaneously remodel the portfolio to match a changing set of circumstances. The client was understandably nervous given market turmoil and sought calm counsel, clear advice and expert execution. As a successful individual, our client was seeking to build his confidence during an unsettling time both personally and for the wider world.
We offered a flexible and responsive approach in order to understand our client’s needs and leading to a detailed execution plan, which evolved markedly over subsequent months. Keeping the client highly involved during the initial phase of the advice process assisted in reducing anxiety.
Initially under an advisory mandate, the investment team applied a dynamic approach to remodelling the portfolio. This took place in stages to ensure the client did not miss out on any market rebound, having endured a significant fall in the valuation during the weeks running up to the transfer. As the client became more familiar and confident with respect to our expertise, we proposed a combination of discretionary management, alongside an advisory service, with the latter holding specialist and less liquid investments.
The assets are invested across different risk return profiles: with a portion of the wealth intended to support near-term spending needs; a core portfolio to deliver balanced returns; and more opportunistic investments - offering long-term growth potential – appropriate given the client’s overall net worth.
Given our focus on sustainability – all the discretionary assets are invested responsibly and, in addition to reporting on performance, we also provide transparency around how impactful the funds we invest in are, in the form of the EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) taxonomy.
We remain committed to evolving the advice and strategy, for this client, in response the changing needs over time.
