Back in January of this year, 18-year old Japanese tennis player - Naomi Osaka - caused quite a stir at the Australian Open, both on court and off. In terms of her tennis, No.127 in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) rankings and having qualified for the main draw, she impressively defeated 18th seed Elina Svitolina 6-4 6-4. Following this victory, in an interview with The New York Times, she was asked about her future goals. “To be the very best, like no one ever was” came the reply. When the interviewer looked puzzled and clearly could not understand what Osaka meant, she added “That’s a Pokémon quote, I’m sorry, that’s the Pokémon theme song. But, yeah, to be the very best, and go as far as I can go.”
