“Too short to be haughty, too nutty to be naughty,
Going on forty, no electric shocks,
The juice of a carrot, the smile of a parrot,
A little drop of claret, anything that rocks.”
Recognise these lyrics? They are from the 1979 hit ‘Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3’ (the clue was in the title!) released by the rock-funk band Ian Dury & The Blockheads. The band were, perhaps, better known for their Number 1 single ‘Hit me with your Rhythm Stick’ released a year earlier, which went on to sell over 1 million copies – a classic of its era. None of us at Affinity are dedicated fans of the band, albeit a couple of the ‘oldies’ amongst us may have a song or two on a Spotify play list, or even, dare we say, something on vinyl!
